ibuprofen
Over The Counter Muscle Relaxants
Last night I had to go to the hospital, because I was experiencing more than normal stomach pains, and bleeding out of orifices that no one wants to hear about. Believe it or not, I wasn’t jumping at the chance to go to the emergency room, or fake a serious condition. The person that I was with told me that if I didn’t go, their penis would remain inside of their $40 Uniqlo pants. I’m sure you can see the issue here.
Anyway, because of my history of being less-than-honest when it comes to my health, I assume someone out there thinks I’m lying. Whether the lying be for sympathy or drugs, I’m not really sure, but I know that the naysayers are out there (and I’m positive they’ll surface in the comments section).
This time, though, my ailments were f’real, and as (I’m sure most will say) I deservingly dragged my body through the ER doors, the thought that crossed my mind was, “Shit, the triage nurse is going to remember me from the news, and know that I’m just trying to walk out of here with stacks of cash and refuse to help me” and “God, all they’re going to give me is Ibuprofen.”
Fortunately for me, I was wrong in my assumption, and quickly transformed into a Mighty Morphine Power Ranger; which basically means I became an even more emotional sack of flesh than I already am.
To save face, because that is what I try to do here, I never actually lied about cancer to get money. There is no other way to explain it, besides that I enjoyed playing with people’s emotions. Which, if you think about it, is even more fucked up than doing it just for some scrilla. So, understandably, throughout the duration of this week’s hospital trip, I kept asking the people who accompanied me there if they believed me, and that I was sorry if they didn’t. How did I let it get to this point? I never thought that I’d be in a position where I could understand why someone would think I was a pathological liar and complete sociopath (see: because I am?). I don’t like it, and I’m trying to better myself.
Anyway, after the doctor came in and told me about my elevated lipase, Bearded Boy believed, and then we went into the bathroom and fucked. It was glorious in my opiate-state, and I didn’t even nod-off once! Oh, and you kind commenters will be happy to know that I am on a liquid diet for the next few days, so the fat should just fall right off.

Sourse:Seafood Salad Recipe
One of the best things about Los Angeles is that we are diverse–remarkably, pointedly, brilliantly, and sometimes detrimentally so. We can point to a vendor roaming the streets of the Northeast Valley hawking “Tamale!” on a Sunday morning and her counterpart in MacArthur Park has the same item but from an entirely different culinary tradition. We have the most concentrated population of Armenian people outside of Armenia, and a Thai population so robust that Thai Town has spilled over to Sherman Way in North Hollywood.
As a lover of food, I can attest that it is overwhelming to endeavor to taste it all, despite the wish to do so. As a writer and editor, I can attest that even the most best-intentioned project has to have parameter and scope. And so Saveur reeled it in tightly. Too tightly, perhaps.
Rob Eshman of the Jewish Journal points out 10 things he feels Saveur left out, and popular local writers like Kevin Roderick of LA Observed are happy to pass on his ten cents' worth. And to some extent, Estman is right; our bar scene suffers because of the perils of drinking and driving, huge pockets of land are food deserts, our beachside dining is largely dismissable, and the concept of farm-to-table is still considered elitist.
But it is not Saveur that errs here, it's Los Angeles itself. We are, contrary to Eshman's and many other people's opinion, a top-rate food city. The problem, as perhaps “Autopia” scribe Cees Nooteboom would concur, is learning how to navigate it. But Saveur is not Frommers, is not Thomas Guide, is not Lonely Planet. They will not hand us Jonathan Gold's Visa card, the keys to a convertible, and turn-by-turn directions that could make Lesley Bargar Suter's 9 Santa Monica stops even remotely possible; but what they've done is reminded us that we should attempt to navigate it.
Now, it's important to note, that Saveur doesn't do this perfectly. Some might like Sandra Tsing Loh's irreverent homage to a seafood restaurant, but I wish she'd offered something more substantive. And in a city whose food writing culture is as diverse, expansive, and occasionally controversial as our food itself, the editors were a bit too heavy-handed in the parceling out of pieces; in place of multiple pieces each from a handful of writers and food professionals, why not have sought out more people to contribute in order to better reflect the true nature of eating in Los Angeles?
There's nary an In-n-Out Burger, ode beyond scant reference to our food truck culture, or even a LudoBites to be seen in this tribute to Los Angeles. In fact, there's hardly mention of so many other oft-referenced tenets of our eating life here: farmers' markets, Downtown, wine, Twitter, frozen yogurt, donuts, or sushi. No hot dogs–not Pink's, Wurstkuche, bacon-wrapped, or otherwise. There's barely a “celebrity” chef on these pages (save for the almighty Puck, natch). What about a look at our burgeoning Vegan culture? Sustainability? There's no dineLA, no tasting tours, no cupcakes, no Grand Central Market. What a shame. But for those of us who are tapped into LA's food scene, this is simply a challenge for us to do better than what's been done for us.
There's a lot of “reality” that got passed over, though what I see as missed opportunities to tout our culinary horn differ from the tact Eshman takes. But he calls to attention issues we as a civic culture need to address, and passes the buck in essence to Saveur. Our level of pleasure in consuming this much-talked about issue will vary as much as our own palates, that much is certain.
Kudos to Saveur for at least turning their eyes on us for one-twelfth of this year, and to all those who realize that maybe Los Angeles is a food city after all–and we are, dammit. LA does a lot of things wrong when it comes to food, but we do a lot of things right–many, many, many more than what Saveur chose to share this month. Where shall we meet up to celebrate?
Profile of a Food Photographer: Robert Caplin
“The question every foodie wants to know: Does Caplin get to eat all the top-notch dishes under his nose?”
Photographer Robert Caplin, at a luncheon for former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright at the house of Tina Brown, editor of The Daily Beast. [Photographs: Robert Caplin]
Robert Caplin, an unassuming young man in his mid-twenties, walks into an upscale Manhattan restaurant wearing jeans and sneakers and is eagerly waited upon, sliding past lines of hungry patrons. How does he do it?
The key is hanging around his neck: a camera. As a freelance photographer for the New York Times, Caplin experiences the city's restaurants in a uniquely splendid fashion—through his camera lens.
Several weeks ago, Caplin entered Novita, a small trattoria that sits at the border of Manhattan's Gramercy and Flatiron neighborhoods. At that time it was a hidden gem of the city, producing some of the city's best pasta in an unassuming space. (Its obscurity would not last long because, as Caplin's presence would suggest, New York Times restaurant critic, Sam Sifton, was crafting a review, which was incredibly favorable. It earned two stars.)
When Caplin arrived at Novita, he was ushered to a table with the restaurant's most impressive array of dishes: black spaghetti with mixed seafood and spicy tomato sauce, grilled portobello, shiitake, and oyster mushrooms topped with Parmesan shavings, filet mignon with asparagus gratin and a dark Barolo sauce, Macaroni alla carbonara, and the rolled chicken breast, stuffed with spinach and prosciutto (Sifton writes that this dish “revives confidence, both in chicken breasts and in stuffing them”).
Rolled chicken breast from Novita.
The question every foodie wants to know: Does Caplin get to eat all the top-notch dishes under his nose? Or is it a “Photograph, don't touch,” situation. When asked, Caplin smirks. “We aren't supposed to sit down and have a meal, but the chef often insists you try something.” It would be rude not to oblige.
Restaurateurs not only urge Caplin to try the food, they pull out all the stops when they know he'll be stopping by, including stacking the restaurant with celebrities. Typically, the critic visits without announcement, as stealthily as possible, but by the time Caplin arrives, the secrecy has faded.
He calls ahead to let them know when he'll be there with camera in hand so they can prepare the food. They are more than accommodating, if not indulging.
“Mentioning the New York Times really opens the door,” said Caplin. Restaurants are more than happy to open their door, with the exception of a few quirky restaurants in Chinatown. “No pictures, no pictures!” they repeat, while holding up their hands.
While Caplin's food photography initiates a Pavlovian drooling response, he is a photographer of many genres—not just of food. In addition to the New York Times, he has photographed for the Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, among other publications. He is quick to state, “I'm not a food stylist,” differentiating himself from the photographers who specialize in food photography and might, for instance, take pictures for a McDonald's advertisement.
They use additional equipment that Caplin doesn't use—snoots, grids, gobos, and reflectors—and they might take an entire day to shoot just a hamburger. He acknowledges the difficulty inherent in that specialty kind of shooting, saying that it “really takes discipline.”
Diners at Boqueria restaurant.
Caplin has purposefully diversified his skill set. The fact that the New York Times can send him to take pictures of the food as well as capture the ambiance of the restaurant, and even send him to the kitchen for a portrait of the head chef, is what makes Caplin so prosperous in the industry. His philosophy is optimism, and he attributes much of his success to staying positive.
“When I was taking pictures in Cuba, I couldn't speak the language, but if you approach a person or a situation with a smile, with warmth in your eyes, they are more likely to grant you access,” he reflected. His optimism encourages people to let their guards down and that is when he is able to take his best photographs, when he can capture moments of truth.
The New York Times “Frugal Traveler” blog did a Q&A with him and mentioned his blog, which has since accrued a steadily growing fan base. While he is excited about the diverse opportunities the future holds, he is grateful for what he has already experienced in his young career.
His assignments so far have heightened his appreciation for food, and have certainly expanded his awareness more than if he were left to his own devices, sans camera. He photographed a tapas bar, Boqueria, for a 2008 article for then New York Times food critic, Frank Bruni. He ended up taking his girlfriend there for Valentine's Day.
New York Times columnist Seth Kugel with a his selection of sweets.
Then there was the article titled “It Can Be the Big Candy Apple,” in which New York Times journalist Seth Kugel spotlighted a dozen of the best sweets in New York City.
Kugel rang Caplin's Upper West Side apartment with doggie bags of candy lining his arms like hangers on a coat rack, from every corner of the city, and wanted his photographer to help him sample the sweets. Caplin happily served as Kugel's tasting partner before he hit the pavement to photograph the stand-outs.
Behind each photograph is a photographer, and behind Robert Caplin's photographs are stories as compelling as the photographer himself.

General Ways to Be in Good Health
Everyone gets sick once in a while. Itis expected. Therefore people have sick time at work. Therefore there are physician and insurance organizations. But there are a lot of basic stuff to be sure you stay in general good health. You must wash your hands. In general, not enough people do this. When using the restroom. Studies have been done and a shockingly low %% of people wash their hands after taking the restroom or before meals.
I always say: Drink water. Water treat all ills. Dehydration is the culprit of many general ill health such as dry skin and plus bloating. 8 cups of liquid is the minimum so make sure you're consuming at least that much. Think that fruits and vegetable juices count towards your daily scoop of hydrating beverages. Sport. Physical activity doesn't have to mean hours on the treadmill sweating away to emaciation. Sport can be as simple as walking across the parking lot to the grocery store or doing housework. That's right! Airless burns calories intake! The more active in basic you are the more do sport you're doing. Consider getting a pedometer. Passometer's have shown that men and women who wear pedometer's are more active than those who don't.
fat loss
Creatine is a protein-based organic element that consists of three amino acids; arginine, glycine and methionine. It is naturally produced by your liver, pancreas and kidneys. It helps your body to generate energy when combined with Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP).
Your organs produce 2 grams of creatine every day. However, your body expends that amount when you work under normal conditions. You can obtain creatine by eating fish and meat products. But in order to meet the daily recommended usage of 5 grams, you need to eat at least 5 pounds of meat. Many bodybuilders and weight lifters use creatine supplements to boost the energy level for intensive and rapid muscle contraction under a prolonged duration. In other words, creatine supplements help them to keep their strength up and work their muscles under anabolic environment for more effective muscle building.
So how does creatine help in fat loss and prevent weight gain? Creatine contains no calorie, fat and carbohydrates. Theoretically, it doesn't increase or improve your metabolic rate directly. It doesn't break down fats.
The logic behind the weight loss and fat loss with creatine is that it helps your body to build more endurance. Just like glutamine, creatine does this by filling your muscles with water. Some individuals experience water retention}, but it is only happens within the muscle cells. As the result, the muscles to become bigger and stronger. In addition, this allows the depository of essential nutrients such as protein and carbohydrates in the muscles. Stronger and bigger muscles enable you to achieve leaner mass which increase the metabolism. In short, as you develop more lean muscles with the help of creatine, you will be able to burn more fat.
There are anecdotal evidences that athletes do lose body fat from the result of taking creatine. Although the fat loss and creatine cannot be scientifically proven at this moment, but recent studies are underway to study this possibility. The studies also explore how does creatine exactly work in assisting your body to lose fat. Preliminary studies show that creatine and fat loss may involve certain biochemical activities.
Side effects from the consumption of creatine is very rare. This compound is naturally found in your body. So it should not interfere with your bodily processes. However, certain people may encounter some problems such as diarrhea and an upset stomach if they have sensitive digestive systems. If you have not reached 16 years old, you should not take creatine supplements because your body has not attained the maturity that allows these supplements to increase your endurance and make your muscle leaner.
As a protein supplement, creatine may help you to become leaner through fat loss. It helps you to maintain endurance and develop muscle while removing body fat. However, this is only anecdotal for now. It is always wise to consult your doctor before taking any kind of nutritional supplement.
Need more low-carb diet versus something else comparisons? You're in luck. A new study found that following a low-carb diet may be better for lowering blood pressure than taking an over-the-counter weight loss medication and sticking to a low-fat diet.
Both plans showed similar drops in weight and improvements in other health factors, but the low-carb diet came out ahead in lowering blood pressure. Researchers placed participants in two groups — one consisted of 57 people who ate a low-carbohydrate diet and were allowed to consume unlimited amounts of meat and eggs, but initially only 20 grams per day of carbohydrates (they could add a few extra grams if the cravings got too bad).
The other 65-person group was limited in the intake of fat per day — 30% or less of total calories, as well as restricted consumption of saturated fat (10% or less) and cholesterol (300 mg. or less). In addition the group took the over-the-counter weight loss drug orlistat. The study lasted for 48 weeks.
The low-carb group dropped an average of 5.9 points of systolic blood pressure (the top number that measures the heart's contractions) and 4.5 points on diastolic blood pressure (the bottom number measuring the heart at rest, between heartbeats). The other group dropped 1.5 points on systolic and 0.4 points on diastolic. More people in the low-carb group decreased their blood pressure medication.
On most other results the two groups were similar — the low-carb set lost about 9.5% of body weight while the medication/low-fat diet group lost about 8.5%, and cholesterol and trigylceride levels improved.
In the study, researchers said they thought the two groups would show similar drops in blood pressure since both lost about the same amount of weight, and because orlistat has been shown to slightly lower blood pressure. They speculate that the low-carb diet may have a diuretic effect, or that the lower serum insulin levels that occur with a low-carb diet could have an effect on sodium retention.
The study was published in the January 25th issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Low-Carb Diet May Be Better At Reducing Blood Pressure than Weight-Loss Drugs
Durham, NC, United States (AHN) – A low-carbohydrate diet showed to be more effective in lowering blood pressure than a popular weight-loss drug, according to Veterans Affairs and Duke University health researchers.
Lead author Dr. William S. Yancy, Jr. said in a statement that the findings show that for those with high blood pressure and a weight problem, a low-carb diet may be more effective in lowering hypertension than taking drugs like orlistat, which is now sold over-the-counter.
The researchers also said pursuing weight-loss through diet may pose less side effects than taking medication. Participants in the study who either took orlistat or adopted a low-carbohydrate diet lost an average of 10 percent of their body fat.
Yancy said the study was one of the first to pit the benefits of diet alone against taking weight-loss drugs. Previous studies have shown that a combination of prescription-strength orlistat, a low-carbohydrate and a low-fat diet is an effective method of losing weight.
The study appears in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Zafgen’s Mysterious Weight Loss Drug Advances Into First Trial for Obese Women
Luke Timmerman 2/8/10
Zafgen arrived on the Boston biotech scene about 18 months ago with blue-chip venture backing, a highly regarded scientist as CEO, and an audacious idea. The Cambridge, MA-based company was developing a powerful new weight loss drug made to work unlike any other treatment in development, by cutting off the blood supply to fat tissue.
One year later, results are in. The idea was wrong.
“That was the theory,” says CEO Tom Hughes. “It doesn’t appear to be the case.”
As it turns out, though, that’s not the end of the story. Allow me to begin at the beginning.
Zafgen first emerged in public in September 2008. That’s when Hughes joined the company after a stint as global head of cardiovascular and metabolism research at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research in Cambridge. Third Rock Ventures and Atlas Ventures provided the initial backing. The idea was to build on research at Children’s Hospital Boston that found drugs which are made to block formation of blood vessels—a successful cancer-fighting strategy—might also help shrink fat tissue. It was a provocative finding from mouse experiments, partly because nobody had really tried it before. Many other drugs in development for obesity work on receptors in the brain, trying to coax the body to think it’s full and stop eating.
VCs listened with some interest because obesity is one of the biggest market opportunities in the pharmaceutical business now. An estimated two-thirds of American adults are overweight or obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
One of the key things Zafgen learned over the past year, based on detailed animal experiments, was that its drug didn’t work through the mechanisms it intended. The company conducted experiments on its lead candidate and found at the tiny doses it intended to use, “we have absolutely no effect on angiogenesis,” the scientific term for formation of new blood vessels.
People: Duggars Pose With Hospitalized Preemie, Say They Want More Kids
Promoting risky medical decisions is becoming a trend for People: This week, the Duggars share pictures of their 19th child, who was born premature, and declare they're open to having more kids because, “You can't let fear direct your lives.”
Though Josie Brooklyn, who was born three months premature on December 10 and weighed only 1 lb. 6 oz., is still in a neonatal intensive care unit, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar feel now is a great time to address their critics in People. “The negatives don't bother us” says Jim Bob, “Our hearts haven't changed.”
For those of you who wondered if Josie being born at just 25 weeks would change the Duggars' commitment to not using contraception, the answer is a resounding no. According to People:
[The Duggars] remain committed to their belief that “each child is a gift from God” and are open to having more. Michelle knows how their position is likely to be viewed, particularly following Josie's arrival. “When I say we would love more children, we open ourselves up for attack,” she admits.
So why make a public announcement about your family plans, especially when Josie and Michelle's health situation is still so unclear? Unlike the Heidi Montag plastic surgery cover story, People quotes several medical sources in the article. They all say more pregnancies would be harmful to the Michelle and the child, including obstetrician Dr. Jeffrey Richardson, who warns that after four children, pregnancies become much more dangerous and, “postpartum hemorrhage, dysfunctional labor, preterm labor and early miscarriage are all risks.” The article also mentions that while Michelle became pregnant with Josie six months after her last pregnancy, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends spacing out pregnancies by at least 18 months.
It's not even clear at this point if Michelle, who is 43 and was diagnosed with preeclampsia while pregnant with Josie, can have more children. Usually, the Duggars only method of birth control is following the Biblical recommendation to abstain from sex for 40 days after having a boy and 80 days after having a girl. “It is not as if we're going for another immediately. This is going to be a year of different focus for me, getting Josie through her first year of life,” says Michelle.
Of course, Michelle has a right to do whatever she wants with her body, but that doesn't make her decision to appear in People any less questionable. It's hard to say which is the stranger symbol of how our society treats pregnancy: Kourtney Kardashian's baby appearing on four tabloid covers in his first month of life, or Josie Duggar appearing on the cover of People with a tube taped to her tiny face seven weeks before her due date. The public is curious about the Duggars and the TLC show 19 Kids and Counting provides some of the money to raise all those children, but do we need to read quotes from Michelle and Jim Bob about their reproductive decisions wrapped around the photo above, of their newest baby fighting for her life? It's bad enough that tabloids are mainly focused on how fast moms lose the baby weight, but People has achieved a new low by focusing more on the novelty of a 20th Duggar that the health of the 19th.

The “Baby Weight” Obsession: Officially Out Of Control
Send an email to Margaret Hartmann, the author of this post, at margaret@jezebel.com.
Watching our weight isn't just for looks. Obesity increases our risk of health problems like joint and back pain, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, gall stones, certain cancers, fertility problems, depression and breathlessness.
How to check your weight
Most of us can tell when we've put on some weight. But it can be harder to know when it's time to lose some weight for our health's sake. Fortunately, scientists have come up with a simple way to check using a simple calculation known as the Body Mass Index (BMI). This describes your weight in relation to your height.
Keeping your weight in hand can sometimes seem like hard work. But with just a few simple diet and lifestyle changes, weight control can become easier. And you'll feel a whole lot better.
Importance of exercise
Whilst a healthy low fat diet is key to achieving a healthy body weight, exercise is also very important. Physical activity is the only way to increase energy expenditure, and exercise combined with decreased calorie intake, is the best way to decrease body fat and very importantly, maintain lean body weight over the long term.
Getting active need not mean kitting yourself out in lycra and heading for the gym. Why not start by taking regular walks, cycling if you have a bike, swimming at the local pool and using the stairs instead of a lift. If these sound dull, consider yoga, kick boxing, dancing – anything, just get moving!
See your doctor before embarking on any new exercise regime.
Top Tips for Healthy Weight Control
* Start your day with a healthy low fat breakfast, featuring Kellogg's cereals for example.
* Be realistic, be prepared for ups and downs, and think long term.
* Keep a food diary to learn more about your eating habits.
* Enjoy regular, low fat, high carbohydrate meals and snacks.
* Be active in your daily life.
* Don't go it alone – enlist support from family or friends.
Why a High Carbohydrate, Low Fat diet does the trick
Carbohydrates are all the sugars and starches in food. Scientific studies confirm that they are the body's favourite fuel, they contain less than half the calories of fat and they are naturally good at controlling our appetite. Examples of healthy carbohydrate-rich foods are breakfast cereals (like Kellogg's), breads, potatoes, rice, noodles and pasta. Base your meals and snacks on these, eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables each day, and limit fatty foods. This is the simple route to enjoying filling and nutritious food. And it helps keep your weight in hand.
Why we genuinely feel that Kellogg's Cereals can help you and your family control your weight
* Eating breakfast doesn't make you fat. In fact research shows that breakfast cereal eaters have lower fat diets, and tend to be slimmer than those who don't eat a cereal breakfast.
* Kellogg's will ensure that every breakfast cereal we make is at least 90% fat-free. All that energy you get from carbohydrate-rich foods like Kellogg's cereals is much more readily burned off than energy from fatty foods.
* Did you know that one gram of fat has nine calories, compared to four calories per gram of carbohydrate.
* Studies highlight that filling up on a cereal-based breakfast makes mid-morning munchies much less likely.
* Kellogg's cereals are fortified with essential vitamins and iron. They help give everybody a nutritious diet, but they're very important for weight watchers. When you eat less than usual it's harder to get all the nutrients you need. This is especially true for women and teenage girls who need a lot of the mineral iron in their diet. Kellogg's cereals can also help provide the important vitamin Folic Acid, and milk on top adds bone-strengthening calcium.
* A Kellogg's breakfast is ready in no time, and a family favourite. This increases the chances of something being eaten before they rush out of the door in the morning.

Excerpt from the book COMMONSENSE PARENTING available on www.lulu.com
Eczema is an allergic skin condition in which there are red, itchy, scaly, dry/weepy patches on the cheeks, in front of the elbows, at the back of the knees and outer surface of the legs. Most of the infants with eczema have the Atopic Variety, which means a family history of allergy. It has been observed that almost seventy five percent of children with eczema, or atopic dermatitis have relatives with hay fever or asthama.
The triad of atopic dermatitis, asthma and hay fever is inherited as a simple dominant gene. Atopic children from increased amounts of immunoglobin E, in response to a variety of ingested and inhaled antigens. Certain foods e.g. milk, egg, wheat, citrus fruits, tomato are known to aggravate the basic condition. Ice cream – soda, coffee can also cause trouble.
Some children are intolerant to woolen clothing, certain soaps and oils, bubble-bath, disposable diapers and some plants. They develop dermatitis (a condition skin to eczema on coming in contact with these substances. In older children psychological factors play an important role as triggering agents.
Skin tests for food allergies are not very accurate and cannot be relied upon, because in a rapidly grounding child immune responses keep changing rapidly. The child may outgrow some allergies and may develop certain new ones.
Management
A. General Principles
1. If a 2-3 months old baby develops this condition it is likely to be over by the age of 18-24 months. It has been hypothesized that these babies are allergic to milk, which constitutes their staple diet. As the child's dependence upon milk decreases with age, the allergy subsides.
2. Avoid frequent washing of skin, especially with soap. Add olive oil/coconut oil to the bath water (1/2 teaspoon to a bucket). This forms a protective film over the body. Apply an emollient cream within three minutes of bathing the baby. This helps in trapping the moisture within the skin, before it gets time to evaporate.
3. Soft cotton cloths are best for these children. Avoid wool, fur and synthetic fabric.
4. We don't recommend the use of mittens at night to prevent scratching. If the itching is severe it is better to consult the doctor. Keep the child's nails sort.
B. Drugs
1. Application of calendula cream is safe and can be done without medical supervision. Linseed oil can also be applied over the eczematous patches.
2. Ointments containing corticosteroids are very effective in eczema, but they get absorbed into the body through the skin and may cause side effects. They can also cause atrophy (thinning) of the skin. These ointments must always be used after consulting the doctor, who will prescribe a mild steroid, appropriate for your baby's tender skin. As soon as you see a new patch, start applying the ointment. Early treatment shortens the duration, hence parents must be educated in how to manage flare-ups as soon as they begin.

If you have recently been diagnosed with cancer and feel like you are grasping at straws for answers then you may want to consider hiring a cancer health care consultant to help you. A quality cancer health care consultant will be able to coordinate your medical care, surgeries, pre op and post op care, emotional and spiritual support, as well as provide you with all of the information you want about your cancer and the various treatments that are available to you. If you feel that having a professional help you with managing your cancer, then there are certain characteristics that you will want to look for in your cancer health care consultant.
Medical Knowledge
Your cancer health care consultant should have a strong medical background, especially relating to oncology and cancer diagnosis and treatment options. They should also be able to explain your condition and the various treatment options to you in a manner that you are able to easily understand, and they should be willing and able to provide your with supplemental literature and referrals to other professionals that will help you understand your condition. They should also provide you with information about what you should expect during and after treatments, and what warning signs you should look for. Infection control is another area that your consultant should address, especially if you select to use chemotherapy or major surgery as a treatment option.
In addition to having excellent knowledge of various cancers and their diagnosis and treatment, they should also have connections with various other professionals in the oncology field and rehabilitative services that they can refer you to. For example, if you have been diagnosed with breast cancer you may need to be referred to psychologists and prosthetic professionals to help you deal with the emotional and physical effects of breast cancer treatment.
Finally your consultant’s medical knowledge should span all of the available treatments that are available for your type of cancer. They should not limit your choices for treatments based on their own prejudices, but they should instead provide you with the pros and cons of all treatment options, no matter how controversial the treatment may be.
Support Team Organization
One of the largest roles that your cancer health care consultant will play is the organizer of your cancer care support team. This means that they will work with you to build a cancer care team that will provide you with the emotional, medical, psychological, and physical care and support that you need in order to get through your cancer treatments, and recover your strength and quality of life. They should have a game plan that first assesses what support you will need, that secondly recruits support team members, and that finally maintains cohesion of the support team as long as you need them.
Educator
As mentioned earlier, your cancer health care consultant needs to have a firm understanding of cancer and its treatments. This knowledge is not only used to help diagnose your condition and select treatment options for you, but it is also utilized to educate you about your condition and the options that you have available to you. The importance of educating yourself is so that you can make informed decisions about the types of services and treatments you want to accept, and so that you understand what you need to do to prevent medical deterioration during and after treatment. You should ask for a list of books and magazine articles to read, as well as professional literature and videos that can give you a better understanding of what to expect and exactly what is happening to your body. You may also want to ask your cancer health care consultant if there are support groups, or other patients with a similar case that you can talk to. Sharing experiences with cancer survivors is a great way to learn what home remedies work to stay off side effects of chemotherapy, and what alternative therapies are helpful at managing side effects. Your cancer health care consultant is your mentor in your cancer learning mission, and they should be able to provide you with information and guidance in a supportive and non-condescending manner.
Personality
While you may not select a doctor based entirely on their personality, because of the intimate nature of your relationship with a cancer health care consultant, it is important to find a provider that you can easily relate to. They should have a personality that is empathetic and sympathetic to your situation, and who is willing to take your feelings and points of view into consideration when designing a treatment plan.
Conclusion
When you are looking for a cancer health care consultant you want to find a person who is qualified. The qualifications that are most important in a cancer health care consultant are: large base of medical knowledge and resources, teaching skills, listening skills, open mind, ability to communicate, and ability to organize your support team. Asking questions and educating yourself will be your tools to selecting the best treatments, and finding the best people to include in your support team. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and expect answers from your medical team, especially from potential cancer health care consultants. Because they will be an important part of your life, and your lifeline to a successful recovery from your cancer, you want to find a person that is able to connect with you on an emotional level as well as a professional level.
